Life in general … and some great thoughts

It’s been a while but life is rather hectic at the moment so just sitting down to write a blog was too much too ask.  But even though it’s not slowing down I’m just going to gather my thoughts  and try to write something sensible (quite an undertaking, lol).

Life at school has been busy. We had the end-of-school exams (given here at age twelve, before they move on to our version of middle school) and the kids performed more or less the way I expected them to. Now I face the daunting task of writing their end-of-school evaluations. Quite a time consuming job. They have to be finished at the end of this month so I take every moment I can.

Last Friday I was given a full day to write these evaluations (a wonderful gesture by our management) but I had to fill in for our deputy manager at the same time.  This meant I had to use quite a lot of my time dealing with some very unruly kids who were sent to detention. Suffice to say I’m only halfway through the amount of evaluations I need to write …

I’m turning into a overenthusiastic rugby-aunt. My nephew plays rugby and I just love to see him play. Even if the weather is cold and damp, the field is filled with wet lumps of clay and I have to drive for an hour on an early Saturday morning to experience all that. It’s great fun!

Last week I went to a Jeremy Camp concert with a friend. We were in time so  we had great seats up front.  When the concert started we soon realized something was wrong. One of the stage lights was directed right into our eyes as they were using concert hall lights in a church hall.  Our whole section of the audience couldn’t see a thing. After a few minutes it was clear we wouldn’t be able to deal with this for a whole concert so I walked to the back to talk to the “light man”. As I couldn’t find him I confronted the concert organizer and asked him about the lights.  He admitted there was a problem but told me he was not able to do anything about it. “We will have to stop the concert and I’m not going to do that.  Just go and sit in the back” , he advised me. I was stunned and told him I was not planning on doing that but expected him to take action. Nothing happened until another person went to the back and complained. Suddenly the light went out and well, it turned out to be no problem at all.  Grrr …

Well, I leave you with some “great thoughts”  I read a few years ago and a video by Jeremy Camp.   Enjoy!

1. I totally take back all those times I didn’t want to take a nap when I was younger.

2. There is great need for a sarcasm font!

3. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument you realize you are wrong.

4. How on earth are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

5. Any GPS really needs to start their directions at #5. I’m pretty sure I know the way out of my neighborhood.

6. You never know when it strikes but there comes a moment when you know that you are not going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

7. I’m always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

8. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

9. Sometimes I look down at my watch three times in a row and still don’t know what time it is.

10. The first testicular guard, the “Cup” , was used in Ice Hockey in 1874. The first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize their brain is also important.

And here’s the video …  I love this music!

  1. Hi Riete. So I am not alone with your number 7 about Microsoft Word. I never know how to answer that damn irritating question.

  2. I know how to fold a fitted sheet.
