Here in the Netherlands the wild is few and far between. We do have our fair share of wild boars, red deer, foxes, badgers and the like. And not to mention a wild variety of fish and birds.
However, none of them are even close to where I live or can easily get to.
So I had to think a little out of the box.
Due to widespread urbanization some varieties of birds fare better than others. For instance, in the last decades we saw a steep decline in the sparrow population as the sea gulls and magpies took over the city.
Great was my surprise when I saw lots of sparrows again in the north of my country. They are not in the west (where I live) yet, but there is hope they will spread out over the Netherlands again.
So, our native wild is coming back …
